Arsenal 0 - 0 Sunderland

If we go back to this season's premier league's results, whenever Manchester United have dropped points, Arsenal have followed them (though not in the same proportion). Arsenal have had a lot of chance this season to go back to the top of the table, but every time, I must say that they have skillfully (rather lack of skills) managed to loose it. Hats off to the team!!!!! Though the team is only partly to be blamed for the draw yesterday to Sunderland, the other part of the blame should go to the referee.... This was not the first occasion this season, they have done it time and time again this season. Right from losing the home derby match to drawing against Newcastle after scoring 4 goals!!!! Its been a special season for the Gunners, more so, if one looks at the backdrop of the trophy drought (its been almost 6 yrs, since they had won a trophy). They had a very good chance to make amends for all these by winning the carling cup, which they unfortunately lost to Birmingham city.....
"End justifies means" - doesnt seem to fit in for Arsenal..... Anybody who's a fan of Arsenal,is so because of the kinda game they play. But that doesnt seem to produce the desired result in the end, atleast till now this season...
Lets c how the season pans out for Arsenal considering that they still have to potential to win the remaining three trophies with big matches lined up in the coming week.... Against Barca on 8th march (Champions League), Man U on 12th march(F.A Cup) and the routine Premier League fixtures to follow..... Apart from this the most fixture that the Arsenal fans will be looking forward to is the Premier league clash at Anfield today between Man U and Liverpool..... Hope Man U drop 3 points, which will give Arsenal one more chance to narrow down the gap. ( But going by the past trend, Arsenal will also drop points, when Man U does so..... By law of averages that has to change, hope that happens in the immediate fixture)

World Cup is back on its feet!!!!

Whatta match it was!!!! Who wud have put their money on Ireland after England had reached a total in excess of 300? With all due credit to the way K O'Brien played yesterday they deserved to win it no doubt..... But looking this match from England's perspective, one has to say that they managed to somehow gift the match to their Irish counterparts.... Who in the world wud have thought that this Irish team is gonnu pull off such a miracle (It is indeed one). Anybody who had looked at the scoreboard at the end of 30 overs of the second wud say that 10/10 times England wud win it hands down... This upset is one of its kind, if we go back in time, all the upsets(non-test playing nations beating the test playing nations) that have happened so far (be it the 1983 world cup victory in which India beat WI, Kenya beating WI in 1996, Kenya beating the giants in 2003 world cup, Ireland beating Pakistan and Bangladesh..... the list goes on), the victory has been scripted with the minnows batting first posting some total and defending that..... This match is so special in that aspect and does it probably tell us something about the way cricket has evolved post the introduction of the T20s? It also probably tells us that the game is played more in the mind than on the ground..... The approach by the Irish team is summed up by what O'Brien said during his man of the match interview, he had 2 options before him, when he went out to bat - either he could have played the entire 50 overs and wud hav guided his team to somewhere around 220 or jus take a chance and see if it pays off. He chose the latter and it paid off.....
It was fantastic for the game for cricket..... And for those who were calling for the heads of the minnows had been made to eat their words..... It is these kinda results that makes the world cup ore interesting!!!!!

IPL 2009 after 2 days......

Team Chennai lost to Mumbai Indians by 19 runs, Team Rajasthan Royals bowled out for the lowest IPL score of 58 against an unexpected side in Royal Bangalore Challengers, a rain interrupted match with a total of just under 17 overs and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers beating their opponent Kolkata Knight Righters by 8 wickets with more than 7 overs to spare...... Perhaps not the ideal start for IPL Season 2..... Bowlers have had a say in the final result of the matches in this season, unlike the previous edition where the batting strength of the team determined the final result..... So, teams with more sting in their bowling line up will do much better this time around and the batsmen, who are technical sound like the Rahul Dravids, Sachin Tendulkars.... will have a major role in deciding the fate of their teams. Suprisingly spinners have had a major role to play so far.... Figures like 5/5, 3/15 by spinners have So the days ahead will have lots in store for bowlers especially spinners..... But the tournament's success will hugely depend on the number of close games that we get to c...... Hope atleast today's match (Chennai Vs Bangalore)goes down to the wire!!!!!

IPL vs IPL

One fine morning after various rounds discussion with the politicians, the Commissioner of Indian Premium League Mr. Lalit Modi came out and declared that IPL is not gonnu be held in India. What a Shame??? A Country where cricket is considered to be the most popular religion, IPL season is like a carnival for the cricket loving public, especially after the stupendous success it achieved in the inagural edition of the tournament. And this year because of Security reasons they've decided to hold this tournament in a cricket where strangely elections are also due in the same time. But still the South African Cricket board has given the go ahead to conduct this prestigious tournament in their country. The most prominent reason for this is the fact that, it'll generate huge money for them. I'd say just because of sheer politics, India has missed the trick here. Considering the current economic situation, had the IPL been held in India, it wud have been the next stimulus package(There were how many, 2 by the government of india, one in the form a Nano and this wud have been 4th, if i'm right) Just becoz of sheer IPL(read Indian Political League), the actual IPL(Indian Premium League) has to be shifted out of India. This is in no way undervaluing the elections in India. In India, elections take precendence on any given day, even though it doesnt affect the common man in any sense of the word(Be it the BJP, congress or the so called third front or the 100th front, whoever comes to power). The main idea of the Indian Political League was that, they didnt want the people of this country to be happy, when they are actually fighting amongst themselves.....(::).... Lets also experience the new version of IPL(SAPL - South African Premium League) starting tomorrow.....
